At 53, Is it too late to train as a Midwife. Am a Shiatsu Practitioner and Tai Ji Instructor?
I always wanted to be in the medical field but also had head for figures. Currently working as a Company Accountant. I just helped deliver by Great Nephew (28 Nov 06) and now feel the urge to train as a midwife. I am a fully qualified Shiatsu Practitioner and also teach Tai Ji %26amp; Qigong. What are my chances?
At 53, Is it too late to train as a Midwife. Am a Shiatsu Practitioner and Tai Ji Instructor?
It's never too late to train as a Midwife. I went to a midwife class, support for my friend, and there were a bunch over OLDER people in the class. The oldest person in the class was actually 68, she wanted to help deliever her grandson.. If you want it go for it, don't have any regrets!
Reply:Very good chances! Go for it!!
Reply:It's never too late to learn /train for something new
Reply:Actually all you need is a catchers mitt and you're in business. seriously, most Midwives today are also at least an LpN, or RN. So what if your're 53, go for it girl.
Reply:It's not too late, but as an accountant, you need to evaluate the following:
Years of study required
Cost of training
balanced against
Years you plan to work after training
Potential income during those years
If you plan to become a certified nurse midwife, you'll need a nursing degree, plus your midwifery training. That will cost you in years and tuition. It doesn't make sense to accumulate tens of thousands of dollars in debt if you're going to retire a few years later.
Another option would be to become a doula, which is someone who helps laboring moms during labor and delivery. Learn more here:

It might fit in well with your alternative/natural healing mindset.
Whatever you choose to do, best of luck!

Very STIFF back and very weak CORE muscle. What exercises is best????????
*** anyone who answer nonsense or being abusive will be reported. GENUINE ANSWERS ONLY! THANKS***
I have had this problem since I had my child a few years ago. I might have been a person with tight muscle all my life but didn't effect me till I was pregnant (from the weight of baby in womb and a lot of carrying baby after - I used to have stabbing back pain in my upper turacsic (sp?) area. I am doing pilates and stretching classes now. I'd like to know if there are any excercises which are comb of the two? or other excercises which are better? (NOT yoga, tried it - too stiff, can't stretch!). What is alexander technique like? My chiro said that i need to strengthen my core muscle and stretch! I wonder if qigong will help? I have tried going to physio %26amp; chinese massage.
actually i seem to be stiff after pilates. Could this be the wrong excercise for me? looking for alternative may be.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

try getting on all 4's and lift 1 leg at a time and stretch it out behind you that might help. then when you are done roll into a ball facing the floor and stretch the muscles. see if that helps.

Falun Gong and the Chinese Government - What's your opinion?
First off - i'm an atheist and i hate cults. Cult defined in a very limited term, for while i think religion is irrational i acknowledge the civic benefits it can provide.
Second - i'm not too keen on totalitarian/authoritarian government either.
Enter this problem. Falun Dafa, a QiGong practitioner group founded on the millenarist philosopical principles of Li Hongzhi. For all intents and purposes - a pseudo-scientific mystical cult.
On the otherside, the Chinese government, a model of authoritarianism that persecutes whatever group it wishes.
Question for you all:
If you had to choose (emphasis the had, no cop-out neutral statements) - Where would your sympathies lie?
The irrational cult or the monolithic government entity?
Falun Gong and the Chinese Government - What's your opinion?
I promote freedom of thought.
I would much rather live in a world where differences are respected, and individuality is encouraged.
The opposite view - to try to get everyone to conform to ONE way of thinking is just too frightening to contemplate!
People have sought the eternal and truth since time immemorial. Why try to crush that out of people now?
Reply:I side with the irrational cult because they aren't killing anyone.
Totalitarianism is always bad.
Reply:You know, I believe in freedom (within restraints of not harming others).
I don't like cults, but geez, if you want to wear funny underpants or hyperventilate by a stagnant pond - go for it!!
China is run by control freaks.
Reply:the atheistic government shouldn't be allowed to hurt a single member of a group of peacefull people
I'm sickened you atheists can defend the atheistic government because you may not agree with falun-gong
Reply:It seems like a lose/lose proposition either way.
If I *had* to choose though, I'd take the irrational cult rather than the gov't.
Again though, I would prefer neither ... just choosing one because you asked for a choice between the two
Reply:I too am an atheist.
But I do not trust the Chinese Govt whatsoever.
Reply:Your premise is incorrect. Falun Gong is not an "irrational cult," and has gathered many adherents. The atheistic state of China refuses to allow any religion or practice that runs counter to its philosophy to be allowed to proliferate (that includes "too much" Christianity). This has been much the case in mose atheistic states during the past 100 years. The totalitarianism has never fully stamped out the practice of the faithful.

What is considered "magic" from a christian perspective?
this question arose from the fact that i do qigong meditation and have read some articles saying it's wronge in terms of christianity.I know the bible teaches against sorcery and such, but what is considered to be sorcery.im pretty sure if i went back in time with my iPod i would be stoned.my definition of "magic" in the bible is conjuring demons ,anything not naturally bestowed,or not from God for personal gain.what do you think?
What is considered "magic" from a christian perspective?
The Bible strongly condemns the practice of spiritism, mediums, occult, psychics, etc. (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). Horoscopes, tarot cards, astrology, fortune tellers, palm readings, séances, etc., fall into this category as well. These practices are based on the concept that there are gods, spirits, or deceased loved ones that can give you advise and guidance. These “gods” or “spirits” are demons (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). The Bible gives us no reason to believe that deceased loved ones can, or would even want to contact us. If they were believers, they are in heaven, enjoying the most wonderful place imaginable – in fellowship with a loving God. If they were not believers, they are in hell, suffering the un-ending torment for rejecting God’s love and rebelling against Him.

Reply:Anything that doesn't come from faith, in G-d is sin. However, you know how Jesus healed the sick with a touch? Or how he spit in the dirt and made salve so that a blind man could see again? Or how his disciples used handkerchiefs or cloths to bring healing? Or others in the bible like Moses raising his staff to part the sea? These are supernatural things and are brought about with a "medium" or substance... for instance a compassionate hand... the salve... or the cloths... Moses' staff... in the items themselves, there is no power. It is how you use these things and how you put your faith in motion by them that is effective. Also, when you do this, look for G-d. It may take time, but there is always a result. To be an instrument of G-d's will, your heart has to be changed. If it is not filled with love for G-d and faith and trust in Him, anything you do can become destructive. If you have one shred of controlling desire, or one shred of selfishness etc. as you do what you do... you will not be able to do G-d's perfect will, and that isn't Christian. It is also very dangerous. Thinking/meditating is good, as long as you are thinking/meditating upon what G-d would want you to meditate on. Healing... compassion for others... Jesus... etc. and not other gods or any negetive things.
Reply:What is considered magic really depends on the kind of Christian you are.
Many Protestants call Catholics sorcerers and witches.
Many object to things like Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Yoga and the like come from non Christian faiths. The fear is that they will bring with them non-Christian influences.
Mature Christians can discern but baby Christians may be taken up by it.
For instance I had a vision of Ganesh once while doing yoga at home. I didn't know who or what it was at the time. But curiosity prompted me to investigate. A baby Christian may have thought this apparition to be proof that this is the right faith.
Then again, there are those faiths who see the demonic at every turn. They will tell you that doing yoga or tai chi IS conjuring demons.
There is a sad breach where "meditation" itself is thought to be witchcraft. The very idea of "Christian Meditation" brings a look of horror to some.
Sheer nuttiness.
Christians have been meditating since the time of Christ. It's called silent prayer. You sit, you turn your soul to the Lord and you listen.
