At 53, Is it too late to train as a Midwife. Am a Shiatsu Practitioner and Tai Ji Instructor?

I always wanted to be in the medical field but also had head for figures. Currently working as a Company Accountant. I just helped deliver by Great Nephew (28 Nov 06) and now feel the urge to train as a midwife. I am a fully qualified Shiatsu Practitioner and also teach Tai Ji %26amp; Qigong. What are my chances?

At 53, Is it too late to train as a Midwife. Am a Shiatsu Practitioner and Tai Ji Instructor?
It's never too late to train as a Midwife. I went to a midwife class, support for my friend, and there were a bunch over OLDER people in the class. The oldest person in the class was actually 68, she wanted to help deliever her grandson.. If you want it go for it, don't have any regrets!
Reply:Very good chances! Go for it!!
Reply:It's never too late to learn /train for something new
Reply:Actually all you need is a catchers mitt and you're in business. seriously, most Midwives today are also at least an LpN, or RN. So what if your're 53, go for it girl.
Reply:It's not too late, but as an accountant, you need to evaluate the following:

Years of study required

Cost of training

balanced against

Years you plan to work after training

Potential income during those years

If you plan to become a certified nurse midwife, you'll need a nursing degree, plus your midwifery training. That will cost you in years and tuition. It doesn't make sense to accumulate tens of thousands of dollars in debt if you're going to retire a few years later.

Another option would be to become a doula, which is someone who helps laboring moms during labor and delivery. Learn more here:

It might fit in well with your alternative/natural healing mindset.

Whatever you choose to do, best of luck!

Very STIFF back and very weak CORE muscle. What exercises is best????????

*** anyone who answer nonsense or being abusive will be reported. GENUINE ANSWERS ONLY! THANKS***

I have had this problem since I had my child a few years ago. I might have been a person with tight muscle all my life but didn't effect me till I was pregnant (from the weight of baby in womb and a lot of carrying baby after - I used to have stabbing back pain in my upper turacsic (sp?) area. I am doing pilates and stretching classes now. I'd like to know if there are any excercises which are comb of the two? or other excercises which are better? (NOT yoga, tried it - too stiff, can't stretch!). What is alexander technique like? My chiro said that i need to strengthen my core muscle and stretch! I wonder if qigong will help? I have tried going to physio %26amp; chinese massage.

actually i seem to be stiff after pilates. Could this be the wrong excercise for me? looking for alternative may be.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Very STIFF back and very weak CORE muscle. What exercises is best????????
try getting on all 4's and lift 1 leg at a time and stretch it out behind you that might help. then when you are done roll into a ball facing the floor and stretch the muscles. see if that helps.

Falun Gong and the Chinese Government - What's your opinion?

First off - i'm an atheist and i hate cults. Cult defined in a very limited term, for while i think religion is irrational i acknowledge the civic benefits it can provide.

Second - i'm not too keen on totalitarian/authoritarian government either.

Enter this problem. Falun Dafa, a QiGong practitioner group founded on the millenarist philosopical principles of Li Hongzhi. For all intents and purposes - a pseudo-scientific mystical cult.

On the otherside, the Chinese government, a model of authoritarianism that persecutes whatever group it wishes.

Question for you all:

If you had to choose (emphasis the had, no cop-out neutral statements) - Where would your sympathies lie?

The irrational cult or the monolithic government entity?

Falun Gong and the Chinese Government - What's your opinion?
I promote freedom of thought.

I would much rather live in a world where differences are respected, and individuality is encouraged.

The opposite view - to try to get everyone to conform to ONE way of thinking is just too frightening to contemplate!

People have sought the eternal and truth since time immemorial. Why try to crush that out of people now?
Reply:I side with the irrational cult because they aren't killing anyone.

Totalitarianism is always bad.
Reply:You know, I believe in freedom (within restraints of not harming others).

I don't like cults, but geez, if you want to wear funny underpants or hyperventilate by a stagnant pond - go for it!!

China is run by control freaks.
Reply:the atheistic government shouldn't be allowed to hurt a single member of a group of peacefull people

I'm sickened you atheists can defend the atheistic government because you may not agree with falun-gong
Reply:It seems like a lose/lose proposition either way.

If I *had* to choose though, I'd take the irrational cult rather than the gov't.

Again though, I would prefer neither ... just choosing one because you asked for a choice between the two
Reply:I too am an atheist.

But I do not trust the Chinese Govt whatsoever.
Reply:Your premise is incorrect. Falun Gong is not an "irrational cult," and has gathered many adherents. The atheistic state of China refuses to allow any religion or practice that runs counter to its philosophy to be allowed to proliferate (that includes "too much" Christianity). This has been much the case in mose atheistic states during the past 100 years. The totalitarianism has never fully stamped out the practice of the faithful.

What is considered "magic" from a christian perspective?

this question arose from the fact that i do qigong meditation and have read some articles saying it's wronge in terms of christianity.I know the bible teaches against sorcery and such, but what is considered to be sorcery.im pretty sure if i went back in time with my iPod i would be stoned.my definition of "magic" in the bible is conjuring demons ,anything not naturally bestowed,or not from God for personal gain.what do you think?

What is considered "magic" from a christian perspective?
The Bible strongly condemns the practice of spiritism, mediums, occult, psychics, etc. (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). Horoscopes, tarot cards, astrology, fortune tellers, palm readings, séances, etc., fall into this category as well. These practices are based on the concept that there are gods, spirits, or deceased loved ones that can give you advise and guidance. These “gods” or “spirits” are demons (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). The Bible gives us no reason to believe that deceased loved ones can, or would even want to contact us. If they were believers, they are in heaven, enjoying the most wonderful place imaginable – in fellowship with a loving God. If they were not believers, they are in hell, suffering the un-ending torment for rejecting God’s love and rebelling against Him.

Reply:if magic is only a game like light hand and something funny it is ok but if you mean magic like black magic this is the point cause any magic is related to divel and i reconfirm any magic and as soon as you related to the divel in any relation you will be against god and christianity so pls pls pls think hard about wat r u doing
Reply:Anything that doesn't come from faith, in G-d is sin. However, you know how Jesus healed the sick with a touch? Or how he spit in the dirt and made salve so that a blind man could see again? Or how his disciples used handkerchiefs or cloths to bring healing? Or others in the bible like Moses raising his staff to part the sea? These are supernatural things and are brought about with a "medium" or substance... for instance a compassionate hand... the salve... or the cloths... Moses' staff... in the items themselves, there is no power. It is how you use these things and how you put your faith in motion by them that is effective. Also, when you do this, look for G-d. It may take time, but there is always a result. To be an instrument of G-d's will, your heart has to be changed. If it is not filled with love for G-d and faith and trust in Him, anything you do can become destructive. If you have one shred of controlling desire, or one shred of selfishness etc. as you do what you do... you will not be able to do G-d's perfect will, and that isn't Christian. It is also very dangerous. Thinking/meditating is good, as long as you are thinking/meditating upon what G-d would want you to meditate on. Healing... compassion for others... Jesus... etc. and not other gods or any negetive things.
Reply:What is considered magic really depends on the kind of Christian you are.

Many Protestants call Catholics sorcerers and witches.

Many object to things like Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Yoga and the like come from non Christian faiths. The fear is that they will bring with them non-Christian influences.

Mature Christians can discern but baby Christians may be taken up by it.

For instance I had a vision of Ganesh once while doing yoga at home. I didn't know who or what it was at the time. But curiosity prompted me to investigate. A baby Christian may have thought this apparition to be proof that this is the right faith.

Then again, there are those faiths who see the demonic at every turn. They will tell you that doing yoga or tai chi IS conjuring demons.

There is a sad breach where "meditation" itself is thought to be witchcraft. The very idea of "Christian Meditation" brings a look of horror to some.

Sheer nuttiness.

Christians have been meditating since the time of Christ. It's called silent prayer. You sit, you turn your soul to the Lord and you listen.

It is well known amongst the elite that Tiger Woods practised Qigong as a boy. But why is it that every time I

Reply:gray dog, we need a little more information.
Reply:Do you mean why does he go nuts every time he misses a put? Well, the load has never been very well tied down with the boy. I did not know he practised Qigong but it would certainly help. I know he is a practising Buddhist which he says gives more self control and peace of mind, though I have to say, it is not immediately obvious!

Can anyone tell me are there anyone teaching the Qigong for cancer patient in Toronto?

Um, there is also another, which is very similar....You might wanna look up Reiki if you cannot find Qigong...It might even be nearly the same thing, just slightly different variations...

What's the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong?

Both of these traditions appear to be based upon systems of breathing and movement aimed at improving health. I was wondering what fundamental differences there are between the two?

What's the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong?
The correct definition of Qigong is any training or study dealing with Qi which takes a long time and a lot of effort.

Taijichuan is a subset of Qigong.that deals primarily with physical well being, "moving meditation" and self defense.

Qigong is about "self regulation" this can involve the physical body, spiritual matters (religion), emotional matters and the human psyche.

Qigong is about regulating/controlling the flow of Qi (energy) within the body, channeling it, directing it and using it for specific purposes. Regulating Qi flow is one of the basic elements of Chinese medicine and accupuncture.

.
Reply:Tai Chi has been proven to enlighten your spirit more. As well, it looks beautiful to do.
Reply:the description of qigong above is pretty accurate, but taichi needs some more explanation.

taichi (or more correctly taiji) means absolute unity, and it is a philosophical concept, and i believe the proper name for the yinyang symbol.

taijiquan is the martial art based on that absolute unity. This is what we think of when we say taichi. It contains a lot of qigong in it. But there is also a lot of other things that are not qigong as well.

the short answer would be qigong is exercise, taichi is martial arts, but martial arts is good exercise, and exercise is necessary for martial arts.
Reply:I too agree with the above comments and only wish to add.

It is true that Qigong is an exercise, however what it is exercising is a person's Qi (chi). There are many Qigong movements, some that promote bodily health, some strength, some balance the chi, and others that support martial movements. Our chi is our bodies' energy force, this force supports our life, encourages healing, and affects our mood. It is by no means a "religious" or "spiritual" force. American studies are being done to possibly link chi with the natural electric current that runs through our bodies.

Tai Chi, however, is a martial art (as stated above). Tai Chi is a martial art that is very much based in the principals of Qigong, that trains the body while simultaneously training the chi. Sadly, in America today, Tai Chi is taught much the way that Qigong is meant to be used, as merely an exercise regimen. Not many Tai Chi instructors cover the martial uses for this very powerful and ancient art. Many believe that the majority of martial arts that exist today, including the famous shaolin kungfu, have a basis in Tai Chi. There are many forms of Tai Chi, but most all of them are simple and quick to learn, and once learned are merely practiced repeatedly until becoming second-nature. In my opinion, most every martial artist should know at least once Tai Chi set or Qigong exercise.

My friend loaned me a video of a Qigong master who had a bamboo shaft broken over his trachea.?

without injury. What do you think?

My friend loaned me a video of a Qigong master who had a bamboo shaft broken over his trachea.?
It may be the same video I saw on TV about 15 years ago.

If memory serves; the man practised Iron Shirt Qigong in the video I saw, and the bamboo shaft was about 10-15 feet long and was about two inches thick, and the shaft was wielded by one of the master's students.

If you think that is something; you should get the video of Frank Dux putting on a martial art demonstration in Paris 15 or so years ago.

Here are just some of the things he did.

Broke bullet proof glass with a punch.

Set the one man tug of war record

He was kneeling on a mat and a line of 26 men were trying to

pull him from his place.

broke two champagne bottles with a single punch.

I am a Zhan Zhuang Qigong master, and have been practising since I was 19 years old.
Reply:It's called a trick piece of bamboo, just like in the movies.
Reply:I think that's awesome and I'd really dig seeing the video. It makes me think I ought to consider taking up Qigong.
Reply:I bet that hurt.

Reply:I saw this guy who had been practicing Qigong since he was a child throw a sewing needle through a pane of glass on t.v. I have a lot of admiration for Qigong masters and have been interested in it for a long time now.
Reply:no tricks i know people who can do it.

And there is a qigong master from china teaching in Sydney who gets people to be able to do a smaller version of this after only 6 months training.

You have stolen my chi by asking such a stupid question.

Are there any websites that teach Qigong?
Hard or soft?
Reply:Qigong covers a VERY broad spectrum (most of which does

not fall into the category of a martial art.)

Do you want to learn about Jing (essence)?

Qi (energy)?

Shen (spirit)?

Ba Gua (a martial art)?

Channels?

Longevity?

Chinese medicine?

etc...

Could you tell me about Qigong healing or taoist healing?

Could you please tell me about it and also let me know any internet info sources?

Could you tell me about Qigong healing or taoist healing?
When you practice Qigong, the exercises charge and accelerate the electrons that are part of your atoms. This creates an electro-magnetic field(EMF) in the body. This field is healing to the body. It keeps your organs functioning. Qi means Breath. The breath of life was blown into the nostrils of man and he became a living soul.

If you have inbalances in your body, the EMF becomes stagnant and cannot keep your cells moving. Cells die and new cells grow.

You do Qigong your whole life because you breathe unconsciously. The exercises were developed to accelerate your energy and enhance the living process.

There are people who don't believe the power of Qi exists... well they should all be dead if that was the case because there would be no life in them.

Look for Jerry Alan Johnson. He is a long time practitioner an teacher. Also Kenneth Cohen is very knowlegdeable. Mantak Chia is another.

There are many others.
Reply:Qi has absolutely nothing to do with an EMF! The concept of Qi dates back to the Yellow Emperor in China. Do you think they had any concept of electro-magnetism 5,000 years ago?! This is new-age science BS trying to describe a foreign concept for which it lacks the vocabulary. Report It

Reply:Hi Mr Vegan Death Squad (interesting name), thanks for the info %26amp; your answer. Your answer was interesting, but you didn't give much info specifically about QiGong. I've looked into Daoism a bit already, but i'm interested to find out more about Daoist meditation. Report It

Reply:I'm not sure about internet sources, but a good place to start if you're interested in Qigong and Taoism (Daoism) from a healing perspective is to start learning about Chinese medicine. Qigong and other methods for cultivating Qi are a central pillar of Chinese medicine and Daoism is one of the foundations on which it is based. The books listed below would be great places to start for Chinese medicine and Daoism.

Dear Souls that are Curious about Good Health,

Question: Why is Qigong (chi kung) better for health than regular exercise or

sports?

Answer:

I think sports and physical exercise is great, it's one way to enjoy your body

and explore its potential. I’ve tried just about every sport. I am a top skier.

I was a professional white water rafting guide, with 40 trips down the Grand

Canyon. I’ve hiked in many of the world’s most famous mountains. I swim a mile

in the Caribbean ocean every day during my winter retreat. I especially love

outdoor sports, as they put me in direct contact with nature’s energy field.

Sports are totally compatible with qigong. But none of the sports or other forms

of exercise I've tried ultimately can compare to the benefits I’ve received from

daily practice of qigong. If I do a sport, I still practice qigong the same day,

as it balances and refreshes me. If possible, I always practice qigong outdoors,

to absorb more natural chi.

Below are five reasons I find qigong to be a superior form of exercise. The same

benefits apply to tai chi, which I consider to be a long martial form of qigong.

But tai chi is longer and thus harder to learn. For this reason I've found

qigong delivers faster and deeper results for most people.

1. Qigong is a whole mind-body exercise.

The main difference is that qigong is not just a physical body exercise, it is a

body-mind exercise. The mind could be defined as our ability to shape energy

into thoughts, feelings, sensations, or other perceptual patterns.

When you exercise the full spectrum of your body-mind using qigong, a completely

different experience happens. You begin to shape energy into flowing patterns of

harmony and balance and peace. You connect your body to the sky above and the

earth below, and your heart opens up a vast open creative space inside the body.

If you practice qigong in a group, you begin to experience the “group heart” of

your fellow practitioners. If you practice alone, it opens a peaceful space in

your heart that is easy and wonderful to share the rest of the day. This whole

body-mind involvement of qigong is also what makes it a perfect complement to

passive sitting meditation.

2. Qigong overcomes our resistance to physical exercise.

Qigong is so much fun, it becomes a “healthy addiction”. People love being

relaxed while they exercise. Many folks tell me they cannot wait to practice it

each day. Unfortunately, most Western people treat physical exercise as

something that you “do to your body” or to your muscles or “to” your heart. They

hate going to gym.

Why do so many people hate physical exercise, and drop it as the first excuse?

Their mind is separated from their body. Hence, there is an unconscious fear and

sometimes loathing of the body. The modern top-heavy mind sees the body like a

difficult and needy child, that cannot really be controlled or satisfied.

Many modern people live in their head, and just visit the lower part of the body

occasionally to get it into shape. They exercise mostly so the head/face will

look good sitting on top of the body. Others can only experience their body

through sex. Then they quickly shift back into their head immediately

afterwards. People engage in sex-ploitation of their own body without realizing

it. It’s much healthier to have a full time relationship between your mind and

your body.

Example: many joggers listen to music as they run in mindless circles around the

block. They are not focused on what their body is experiencing while running.

They ignore the joy of movement or the exhilaration of moving through space.

Instead, they listen to their favorite band because they find their body

incredibly boring to hang out with. Exercise is a chore. They resent having to

work hard, to sweat to get the fat off their flabby muscles. There is no deep

mind-body communication happening during their exercise.

With qigong it’s different. You don’t push the river, you find a gentle rhythm

and you repeat it with slow, relaxed, often circular movements. Different

movements open different energy channels in your body. The process invites to go

deeper. You gradually find the body moves by itself effortlessly, as if

propelled by some invisible energy field. You relax and enjoy a ride on an easy

feeling of flow.

3.Qigong delivers better %26amp; quicker health benefits than ordinary exercise.

I could go on for an entire book all the health benefits that come about from

this kind of relaxed movement. About how ONLY gentle circular movements will

stimulate your lymphatic system, which is the backbone of the body-mind’s immune

system. Jogging and aerobics actually shut down the lymphatic-immune system

during vigorous exercise!

Why would fast exercise cause your immune system to shut down? When you go

running, your body assumes that you need to conserve energy. It thinks (in the

deep instinctual brain) that you are running away from a bear chasing you down

for a meal. Your belly-instinct brain doesn’t see your $200. nike running shoes,

it thinks you are in survival mode, so it kicks the adrenaline on and shuts the

immune system. It considers your immune system an optional at that survival

moment.

So vigorous exercise is not optimal for your lymphatic and immune system. It may

do other things for you, and is certainly better than rotting in your chair!

Does your heart need the “fast” aerobic exercise? According to Chinese medicine,

no. It posits that the heart is already over-worked, and actually needs a

vacation. Qigong gives the heart a vacation by getting the chi meridians and

blood vessels of the entire body to take over the heart job of blood

circulation.

That is why top athletes have low blood pressure – their circulatory efficiency

is so high that the heart doesn’t need to overwork. Chinese sports athletes

already know that qigong training will give them a secret edge over their

competitors, but they don’t advertise it.

Does science back up the claim that qigong offers superior health benefits?

Please check our the research from the past director of the Stanford Research

Institute on the 3500 science studies proving the health benefits of qigong.

http://www.healingtaousa.com/cgi-bin/art...

4. Qigong gives you more energy than you expend practicing it.

You get more energy back from qigong than you put into it. When you do qigong,

you are exploring the natural of perpetual motion. Your body is really a “free

energy device”. Physicists admit that humans expend more energy than they take

in from food, water, and air. But they cannot answer the mystery as to where the

extra energy comes from.

If you practice qigong regularly, it is like making a really safe, profitable

investment. You get all your invested principle back, plus huge interest. Most

physical “body-only” exercise result in a net energy loss. People work hard,

they sweat, afterwards they feel pleasantly exhausted. The addiction here is

different – it is the need to release pent up or stuck energy in the body.

So even this type of physical workout is healthy for you, up to a point. But

consider this: body builders who develop huge muscles often die young of heart

attacks. Why? Because as they age, their heart has to feed blood to all that

muscle, and it gets exhausted early. The big muscles turn to fat, and reduce

efficiency of circulation.

Qigong in my progressive training has you store the extra chi gained in your

bones, tendons, and vital organs – not in the muscles. These require far less

maintenance and are part of the qigong secret to producing longevity.

5. Qigong is easy, fun, %26amp; all ages can practice it anywhere.

You can learn qigong and begin to feel the chi flow within minutes. It’s really

a universal exercise – it’s super easy to learn, whether you are 8 or 80 years

old. You can practice anywhere, anytime – indoors or outside, even in a small

apartment space.

With qigong exercise, less is more. Less effort gives better results - the more

relaxed and soft you are, the more the chi can flow through you. Forget the “no

pain, no gain” exercise theory. When you push the river, you get tired of it

eventually. Ordinary kinds of exercise can make your body strong, but they wear

you out energetically.

With qigong exercises, you can forget the sweaty workout. Stop treating the body

like a dumb sheep that needs to be herded by a head that ”knows” what is best

for the body. Qigong exercise is about appreciating your body-mind, respecting

its intelligence, and giving it love and energy while you are moving it. The

body-mind together keep you young and healthy. Qigong doesn’t push or stress the

body into a hard sweat – it seeks to release stress from the body.

Wishing you love, flowing chi, and radiant health,

Are there any very good qigong teachers in the Los Angeles area?
Master Hong Liu

He provides lectures, seminars, and courses for the L.A. public who are interested in healing their ailments, or to become qi gong healers. He has some apprentices in the Los Angeles area, with some teaching in acupuncture colleges.

He has a book out called: The Healing Art of Qi Gong, a very interesting read.

You may visit his website at qimaster.com.

Can you combine reiki tummo, qigong, and pranayama together?

will it make healing more powerful?

Can you combine reiki tummo, qigong, and pranayama together?
First of all, a combination that you speak of is physically impossible.

Also the combination that you speak of in many cases is also metaphysically impossible.

Third of all you are much better off making a combination of other valuable assets any worthwhile endeavor !
Reply:Reiki has no basis in reality, and Chi and Prana are the same , so one should suffice.
Reply:When you combine them all into one you have someone who is Shitoutofluck.

Difference between TAI CHI and QIGONG?

same

Difference between TAI CHI and QIGONG?
Virtually the same, though styles can vary between teachers, countries and schools. Chi means the same as Qi, or Ki, and means breath, spirit or power, or a combination of those three depending on interpretation. Tai means The Way of, and Gong, Gung, or Kung means Working with. OK? Go your way peacefully, grasshopper
Reply:People who play the QIGONG can fly!I learn this from the movie and fiction.
Reply:Tai Chi or also known as T'ai Chi Ch'üan is considered a soft style martial art, an art applied with as complete a relaxation or "softness" in the musculature as possible

Qigong is an aspect of Chinese medicine involving the coordination of different breathing patterns with various physical postures and motions of the body.
Reply:Tai Chi is a Kung Fu from a famous Kung Fu Master long time ago. You can fight with Tai Chi and bounce back your opponents' attack. Tai Chi is an art of fighting using 'Yi Yang' to balance out attack.

Qi Gong is an exercise to cultivate the internal energy in your body. Qi means energy, Gong means exercise.
Reply:TAI CHI - is martial arts involving movement, exercise, and is considered a fighting style.

QIGONG - is focus and movement of your internal energy usually praticed with a form of meditition.

Qigong does not necessary involve movement or exercise it's 'Mental'. In chinese martial arts all martial arts involve Qigong while Qigong encampass a much broader area then just martial arts.
Reply:First, it is taijiquan, not tai chi. Taijiquan is a form of meditative excercise done by millions in China, characterized by slow deliberate movements. One form is called Yang, another Chen

Qigong is more a set of breathing exercise and meditation, sitting pretty still.

Qi is the Chinese word for inner energy source, or life energy. There is no equivalent in English
Reply:Not the same thing.
Reply:Qigong (气功), or "exercising the Qi" -- the vital life force in one's body -- is considered to be a part of traditional Chinese medicine in preventive and therapeutic health care.

As a result of this popularity, there has been some divergence between those who say they practice Taiji primarily for fighting, those who practice it for its aesthetic appeal (as in the shortened, modern, theatrical "Taijiquan(太极拳)" forms of wushu, see below), and those who are more interested in its benefits to physical and mental health.

Combining bagua with qigong?
Bagua is already an internal martial art. It's movements are like martial qigong.

It has qigong already in it.

Reply:Practice Ba Gua Zhang slowly and you get healthy Qi gong. Speed it up, make sure you have a very accurate knowledge of the foot work, where your weight is distributed, and how to use the legs for the power, and you have one of the most devastating martial arts known to man. You cannot know the power of the internal martial arts unless you find a teacher who can teach combat applications. Everything from striking to wrestling to Chin Na is in those eight circles.

Cross training QiGong with jujitsu?

Today I just thought up that if you're in a submission, couldn't you use qi to stop the pain or whatever? Just a theory.

Cross training QiGong with jujitsu?
I've studied QiGong but never Jiu Jitsu. I've studied MMA and some Krav Maga but never been in a position to use Chi to lessen any pain or impact.
Reply:qui gong is a myth that has been largely exposed as ineffectual.
Reply:Ok how about next time you got caught in a lock, don't tap out and try use your Qi?

Please let us know the result.

If you live north from Sacramento, please let me know so we can test this little theory of your out. And no I'm not gonna to rely on Qi!
Reply:Qigong won't work under those circumstances, however yoga might work.

True Qigong is not a myth. if you find the right teacher. Qigong doesn't revive a dead person. But anyways a boeing engineer(someone's dad) try explaining it to me for 2 hrs how a plane supposed to fly in the air, i still don't get a thing he said. i just fly in it.
Reply:People seem to have very strange ideas on the notion of qi. Qi can be compared to the ancient Geek word of pneuma which means breath. in Chinese the character that means qi is also used in the word for petrol and electricity. It basically means energy. No breathing, no energy. Breating techniques are the basis of qigong and is meant to stay healthy and vigorous. Through breath control you may keep your cool and stay relaxed and limit the pain you experience. Qigong can be trained in combination with any physical exercise.

Sanchin, which is hard qigong, could be detrimental if practiced incorrectly.

It's in the breathing. When doing so, you have to contract the muscles continuously.

You are supposed to do a continuous smooth breath and not hold the breath,

Alot of practitioners hold the breath when they come to the end of a movement, then release it. This is incorrect.
Reply:Just to be sure perhaps try combining it with smoking, that could help

Is Qigong even exercise to keep one physically fit or should one incorporated western style exercise.?

I want to know if one would need aerobic exercise for the heart and weightlifting for muscle strength. I am a middle aged woman who exercises regularly.

Is Qigong even exercise to keep one physically fit or should one incorporated western style exercise.?
Qigong or any martial art is super for general health. I think you should add at least 2 or 3 days of some form of cardio training to get your heartrate up (During those sessions). Also, it has been proven in even the elderly that weight training, specifically when the individual is doing exercises with a "full" range motion will improve overall health, fitness and longevity.

Lots of martial arts are very very great exercise routines so keep doing it but add some form of weght training into your sceduel at least 3 times a week for maybe 30 minutes or so.
Reply:Qi gong is neither a strength build exercise or an aerobic exercise. Qi gong can provide good benefits to one's health, but if you goal is to increase strength, endurance, or even lose bodyfat, you'll need to look for other forms of exercise to supplement your qi gong.

Yoga is an excellent way to increase overall body strength and flexibility. There are numerous types of aerobic exercise to help strengthen your cariovascular stystem.

Qigong, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, etc.?

I would like to learn about the above named practices as an alternative to meditation and as a means of getting outside my own head. I've read that these practices should not be attempted on your own because you could do yourself a mischief. I do not have access to an English-speaking instructor so my only option other than books is a DVD.

I looked to see what is available through amazon, what is there isn't very helpful because there are no briefs to explain the DVD and/or the practitioner. I don't want a gimmicky DVD, I wouldn't even consider Tai Chi by David Carradine. He is an actor not an expert on Eastern philosophies.

I want to order "An Introduction To Tai Chi Chi Kung by Lucy Lloyd-Barker because five people use it and consider it to be a good starting point also, it doesn't become annoying. Does anyone have experience with using this DVD and have you benefited from using it? If not, any recommendations?

-----

Qigong, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, etc.?
I studied Tai Chi under an instructor for a year, but before I was able to study under an instructor I tried buying books and videos.

Based on my experience it seems that videos are great and books simply complement the videos. I've noticed that from the several videos I've purchased they all seem to have the same consistency. You learn some stretching, breathing, possibly mind and then the actual forms.

If you purchase the video, you'll basically get the something similar. You may not get everything that you want, but if it's an intro video, then what you learn will probably be more physical aspects than the mental. It's a good starting point and once you get the forms down, then the mental would be a next step.

Keep in mind that there are various styles of Tai Chi. The most popular and most likely ones you'll learn from videos will be either the Yang short or long forms or the 24 forms. The intro video may go into that ane explain the differences.

In any case if you are interested in a deeper study of Tai Chi from a martial arts/mediation point of view then I've provided some links that may be helpful and may have a wider selection than amazon.
Reply:"..as an alternative to meditation and as a means of getting outside my own head."

I would strongly recommend to check out The Way Of Energy by- Master Lam Kam -Chuen. This is the real deal, the true path to internal strength. Why do christians have a problem with things like reiki and qigong?

i am a devoted christian and study energy arts such as reiki and qigong.i allso do a lot of meditating and yoga.i hear alot from other christians that this is a sin and from the devil.how can these healing arts using the life energy God gave us be bad? didnt yeshua tell us to heal the sick?In fact since i started doing these things my faith and relationship with God has greatly improved.

Why do christians have a problem with things like reiki and qigong?
They aren't using the life energy FROM God. As a Christian, healing others should only be done through Jesus ... not through reiki (Buddhist origin) or yoga (Hindu origins). Do your research and find out the origins of these.

The use of energy healing encourages one to put their full trust in themselves and their own bodies, which is a form of worship and is spiritually dangerous. Bottom line ... NOT for Christians. Peace :-)
Reply:People are afraid of the unknown. If they would learn what these things were really about maybe they wouldn't call them witchcraft like I've heard so many do.
Reply:i have never heard of reiki and qigong
Reply:i guess.
Reply:people are lazy and don't want to invest time in learning about what you are talking about - they may find out it is helping your path to enlightenment as well and that would mean they would have to learn something about it.

always keep a smile on your face and your chin pointed in the right direction. let the "sin accusers" worry about their own soul. he who has not sinned......
Reply:Stay away from close-minded fundies--who think that anything not in the Bible must be evil.
Reply:Because its not biblical. This is not how God told Christians to heal the sick.
Reply:While it is true that you would think that people who believe things fervently even though they have now evidence would just believe in everything, it doesn't appear to be true. Most of them jealously guard there own personal irrational belief, while condemning the others. I think it must be some type of survival trait put into people somewhere along the evolutionary chain, I mean, if you just believed absolutely everything you ever heard in your life your odds of surviving long enough to breed should be pretty low, shouldn't they?
Reply:God bless you, and may you continue to focus on life energies. They are a gift that God has granted to us, and to neglect to use them, in my opinion, is a slap in God's face. Embrace the gifts that he has given, and may God be glorified in your use of them. And ignore those Christians who would condemn you because your beliefs do not fit squarely in with theirs. I, also, am a Christian who uses methods different than most Christians would accept, in drawing closer to God. Hail!
Reply:I don't know I am also believe in Christ And Krishna too and I do Reflexology and think all of those healing techniques are gifts of God. So I don't know whats their problem

Have you read The Gospel of the Nazirenes (the original New testament ( Christ originally taught Karma, Reincarnation, hell a place where sinners get their very bad karma (no one goes there for eternity) for more info google gospelofthenazirenes.c It is very enlivening
Reply:We are often overly cautious when it comes to things that aren't biblical, but if Gopd doesn't have a problem with it, that's cool
Reply:I think it depends on what form of Christianity you follow - I am a Christian, and I have no problems with reiki - though I honestly don't know what qigong is! Lol* Also, I imagine, where you live also makes a difference - it takes a little longer for things that are main stream and acceptable in big cities to catch on in places like the small town I live in. :)
Reply:Make up your own mind. Don't go the way of fear like the others. Point out that Jesus did hands-on healing and who's to say it wasn't Reiki or QiGong?

Any suggestions?

Yoga, how much is good in a day, and qigong, how many hours a day is advisable.?
well do it max 1hr in the morning that is enough it keeps you fit and active all day long
Reply:whatever "they" say is not entirely true. Yoga is not like other exercises but that doesn't meant you can do it all the time and not get tired. In the beginning you might not be able to make all the positions right, so please don't stress and try to do it again and again. You will get it for sure within days.

some people do yoga for like half hour or so and are really fit and good looking. SO do not stress. It all depends on your ability and body type. Yoga is done mainly for relaxation but if you are not relaxed, the whole purpose is defeated,

Good luck!

What Is Qigong?

Does anyone know of any good articles on qigong?

What Is Qigong?
Qigong (Simplified Chinese: 气功; Traditional Chinese: 氣功; pinyin: qìgōng; Wade-Giles: ch'i4 kung1; Thai: ชี่กง) or "Energy-Cultivation", is an aspect of Chinese medicine involving the coordination of different breathing patterns with various physical postures and motions of the body. Qigong is mostly taught for health maintenance purposes, but there are also some who teach it as a therapeutic intervention. Various forms of traditional qigong are also widely taught in conjunction with Chinese martial arts, and are especially prevalent in the advanced training of what are known as the Neijia (Chinese: 內家; pinyin: nèi jīa; Wade-Giles: nei4 chia1), or internal martial arts.

There are currently more than 3,300 different styles and schools of qigong.[citation needed] Qigong relies on the traditional Chinese belief that the body has an energy field generated and maintained by the natural respiration of the body, known as qi (this is analogous to Prana and Pranayama in Yoga). Qi means breath or gas in Mandarin Chinese, and, by extension, the energy produced by breathing that keeps us alive; gong means work or technique. Qigong is then "breath work" or the art of managing the breath to achieve and maintain good health, and especially in the martial arts, to enhance the energy mobilization and stamina of the body in coordination with the physical process of respiration.

Attitudes toward the basis of qigong vary markedly. Most Western medical practitioners, many practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, as well as the Chinese government view qigong as a set of breathing and movement exercises, with possible benefits to health through stress reduction and exercise. Others see qigong in more metaphysical terms, claiming that breathing and movement exercises can influence the fundamental forces of the universe.
Reply:The short answer is:

Qigong, or Chi Kung focuses on the body's energy. There are basically two types of Qigong; hard and soft. Soft style Qigong deals with channeling the body's energy for healing purposes. Hard style Qigong uses the energy for combat. Westerners call it Iron Hand or Iron Body. Iron Hand focuses the body's energy in the fist to help deliver a powerful blow. Iron Body focuses the body's energy at a specific point so that it can't be harmed by a strike. These techniques require extreme concentration and while soft style Qigong can be used to prolong life, using hard style Qigong can actually shorten your life because the amount of energy used is difficult to recover.

Good luck!
Reply:I recommend a book, "The Healing Power of Qi" by Roger Jahnke.

It summarizes all the good info one (beginner) needs to know about Qigong.

Then, one can go on, as qigong is a never ended discipline.

A Master is better then any article or book, and the practice does the magic.
Reply:Go to the link within this website WW_WCKF, and look under documents there are good articles on this subject.

http://www.pacificwingchunassociation.co...
Reply:Qi Gong (meaning energy cultivation) is a discipline that is associated with the Internal Martial Arts studies, it has most of it's association with Tai Chi Chuan, it's mostly used as a health maintanence or prevention exercise.

it uses the natural respiration of the body, known as qi (this is analogous to Prana and Pranayama in Yoga). Qi means "breath" or "gas" in Mandarin Chinese, and, by extension, the energy produced by breathing that keeps us alive; gong means work or technique. Qigong thereby means "breath work" or the art of managing the breath to achieve and maintain good health, and especially in the martial arts, to enhance the energy mobilization and stamina of the body in coordination with the physical process of respiration.

The Chinese has used it as part of their alternative medicines practices since the late 1980's since it has some stress reduction capabilities.

Qigong helps practitioners to learn Diaphragmatic breathing, an important component of the relaxation response, which is important in combatting stress.

Taijiquan (or better known as Tai Chi), is a martial art based on the principles of internal qigong, and it appears to be a potent intervention to prevent falls in elders, maintain joint mobility, and improve balance, which is why you see many elderly people practicing Tai Chi though it can be a very effective Martial Art as a Self Defense component as well.

I've read a few articles about it some library books during some studies into the "internal" practices of Martial Arts, but I've also seen some articles in Black Belt magazine, but unfortunately I can't remember the exact issues (lost many of the issues I had in my last move to my apartment) they may still have some in their articles section on their website: blackbeltmag.com

you may be able to find what you're looking for there.

Good Qigong dvds or other learning materials?

I thought I'd give Qigong a try, but there aren't any instructors in my area (nearest is about 2.5 hours away). Can anyone suggest good learning resources, such as DVDs, to get started (preferably from credible, established authorities)?

Good Qigong dvds or other learning materials?
I wouldn't recommend learning Qigong from DVD or books only. They are there as supplemental materials, but not as the main/standard methods of learning Qigong. It is pretty danger to learn it this way because it may hurt your body instead of benefiting it if your qi disrupted inside your body or flow incorrectly.

Try to learn the basic fountain from a well qualified teacher first before you ever attempt to learn Qigong yourself from a dvd or book. You may want to learn it slowly by going to a teacher once a month; however, you will learn all the basic eventually.

Another way to study qigong is to use the moving qi gong method such as Tajii Quan. It is much safer because you use your body to direct your qi movement without the danger of relying solely with your mind.

Qigong - Why the Chinese are persecuting the Falun Gong???
That first reply is unbelievably ignorant.

Many non-Christians around the world are constantly persecuted.

A good example are followers of the Baha'i faith in the Middle East.

As to the persecution of the practitioners of Falun Gong by the Chinese government, the reason is because Red China is a communist regime. They see movements like Falun Gong as a threat to their totalitarian stronghold over the general populace.

Qigong (pronounced Chi-Gong) is a system of self-healing that stems back 5,000 years in ancient China. I've used it myself and have found that it can be effective.

Reply:thats a lie from Satan. Everybody knows that Christianity is the only religion that gets persecuted in this evil world.

Qigong practice doing harm??

Hi, I'm a beginner at qigong. I've been doing some beginning exercises, and everything has been positive so far EXCEPT for one thing. I've noticed that there is light pain in the joints of my toes now (both feet), and the knuckles are cracking a lot throughout the entire day. What is happening??

I assume I am doing something wrong with the exercises, but what?

Thanks in advance.

Qigong practice doing harm??
I've tried that it is a very extreme, intensive exercise you'll probably going beyond your comfort zone. That's part of growth. Ease the pain with a massage, rubbing alchol and some epsom salt.

Qigong like Mr. Miagee? Heated Hands like Infrared heat?

I had a friend who had been in martial arts a looong time and once did this heat/muscle thing where he put his hands together, briskly rubbed them together and applied his hands to my forearm. It felt like infrared heat - it wasn't from the friction. It was very warm (close to being hot) and went down into the muscle and spread outward from there. Years later told me it was from practice of Qigong.

It was almost identical to what Mr.Miagee did in the Karate Kid after the kid got an injury or something.

Anyone know what this is and how to learn it? I do reiki and am

familiar with healing energies but this was in a different category completely.

Qigong like Mr. Miagee? Heated Hands like Infrared heat?
There are a number of good Qigong books. Look for some of the books by Yang Jwing-Ming. There are several different varieties of Qigong, but basically Qigong is sort of like yoga from the standpoint of Chinese Martial Arts.

Since reiki is originally from Tibet (though the name is Japanese and it has been spread from there), the energies are quite different from those used in Qigong.
Reply:I fail to see how my answer was condescending. Additionally, either I failed to convey how I knew what you were experiencing, or else you just misread what I had typed. Either way, you are mistaken if you believe it to be a "you have to be there" type thing... Report It

how does sushi relate to peiking duck. lol

anyways i know what you mean. qigong is foreal and but it's hard to find true qigong masters. Report It

Reply:genuine qigong masters are rare to find just like genuine taichi masters are rare to find as well(though you see them doing taichi everywhere in parks, but those aren't the true ones)

google this name: Wong Kiew Kit. He is a world class true qigong master. Report It

Reply:lol it was friction and him rubbing his hands on ur muscle .... dude theres no such thing as anything but massage.... theres no magical cure...... ok but im just saying i seen the movie... its not magic its just massage... i have no idea wth that it... theres no such thing as "healing energy" but watever....i just tried it on my leg... ok all u do is rub extremely fast and press onto the limb, i held 7 seconds and my leg was still warm... my leg had been sore all day and ya it feels a lil better... no art to it
Reply:I have studied Qigong and other forms of internal martial arts from China, but it surprises me that your friend did something that benefited you in this manner. Being familiar with Reiki, I would have thought you would experience this in your practicing, but from my experience, Qigong is for self-cultivation of chi/ki, not necessarily to pass on to somebody else!

I'll have to follow this question now myself to see what others come up with!

Need to learn a simple Qigong form via the internet for free. Anyone know of one?

I don't live near any Qigong instructers and would like to use the magic of the internet to learn some simple Qigong excercices. Looking for video clips/and or informative text on the subject. Qigong should be free and available to all people!

I can refer you to a book that will cost about 5 dollars, and teach you a good/decent qi gong form. Not counting that, anything you learn off the internet will be a bad form, especially since you won't get a teacher to explain the components of the form.

Qigong books/videos/websites/etc...?

I would like some recommendations on books, videos, websites, whatever for information and virtual training in qigong. I have experience with energy work in another modality and am interested in exploring qigong at this time.

Thanks!

Qigong books/videos/websites/etc...?
Amazon is not a bad place to look but you can often find books much less expensive at www.half.com and just type in qi qong.

http://search.half.ebay.com/Qi-Gong_W0QQ

They have books, and other things too. If you are learning internal Ki (chi) flow better this is a good way to go, some i have spoke to also say Reiki is also so long as you find a good teacher or master. Next would be Tai Chi and Yoga.

Best of luck.
Reply:I purchased the "Wild Goose" video on Qigong, but they were expensive and didn't have enough material on them. So, I'd try something else.

I used to have this book, http://www.amazon.com/ChI-Power-Within-E... , which was pretty good. I want to get this one though, I read through it in Barnes and Noble, and it seemed cool.

Qigong and Martial Arts?

Through the history of Eastern Martial Arts, Qigong and external systems have grown up together. Bodhidharma's Marrow Washing exercises grew up beside his 5 animal style kung Fu... ultimately influencing most other arts... Karate, Taekwondo, Jujitsu, Kobudo.

My style, Isshinryu has one kata, Sanchin, which I would consider to be a straight up Qigong form. (Iron Shirt Chi Kung) We also do Mokuso (sitting meditation) during class, which is similar to many Qigong exercises. Does your style have any practices you would consider Qigong. (Ki, Chi) maybe even Ki-ai. (The Shout)

Qigong and Martial Arts?
well in my arts: thai boxing and capoeira we don't do that stuff. however i took it upon myself to supplement my training with a lil qi gong so i have a few videos and a book: "Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body: Chi Gung for Lifelong Health" [a pretty good read might i add] that makes me feel more energize and have a better control over my body
Reply:hmmm well in my bujinkan budo taijutsu use chi kung breathing exercises along with kuji-kiri. we also used the iron shirt technique during conditioning exercises. also in wing chun i used chi kung breathing exercises.
Reply:In Shinbu Aikido we have several kata that has to do with Kinot to mention techniques. We have our 2 sets of foot movements. One set of 24 and the other of 56 the 1st one is called Unsuko and the 2nd is called Tandoku-undo.Then we have the 8 releases, it is called Hoppo-undo-no-kazushi. Then we have a breathing exercise at the end of class, that is in a seiza (seated posistion) at the end of class called Shin_kokyu.
Reply:According to tradition, Kung Fu and Tai Chi evolved directly from the practice of Qi Gong. Yes, I agree with your observations. There are forms and breathing exercises in most martial art styles that appear to be almost exactly the same as Qi Gong exercises.

Qi Gong evolved from the the ancient text called, "The Secrets of the Yellow Emperor," a medical text. As legend goes, the emperor was never to be touched by a mortal hand. Qi Gong was developed as the medical treatment system for the Yellow Emperor. The physicians quickly realized that they were left weak or sometimes ill following these treatments. This began the study of increasing the body's essential energy through exercises and breath work. Thus, Qi Gong was born.

I don't know of any Qi Gong exercises that would include Ki-ai, "The Shout". Although there are quick exhalations used to expel cool or hot energy, through the nose and mouth respectively. Sounds, were not part of Qi Gong until Dong Fong Fang Fu.

Looking for Qigong doctor to help friend's father with cancer.?

I have a friend in California near San Francisco, who has a father that has cancer that isn't responding to Chemotherapy. I would like to find a Qigong doctor who I can refer him to that has experience in healing cancer. I 'm not talking about just self meditation, herbal remedies, or holistic hospice type management. I am talking about a live in or patient live in therapy. Complete management.

For example, 12 years ago I knew someone with lymph cancer and it was terminal. He went to Thailand and spent 4 months there. When he came back, the doctors said he was cured and they couldn't understand how. But this is what I am looking for. Or something with this type of approach. If the person is in California that would be great but SE Asia might be OK too. He is Vietnamese. Anyone knowing such contacts would be much appreciated. Please no commercial programs or treatments.

Looking for Qigong doctor to help friend's father with cancer.?
This is a rather interesting question, especially since I happen to live in San Francisco :P

First off, I know one Chi Gung master who used to cure terminally ill cancer patients in China (after everything else had failed), but he doesn't do that anymore, so I don't think he'd be willing to do it.

However, he did find one chi gung form which seems to be semi effective for a person to treat their own cancer (although to be fair, having a good chi gung tui na doctor work on you will do more than that ever could).

If you want I could probably figure out a way to send you materials for learning how to do dragon and tiger (the specific chi gung form). I'm learning it, but I don't feel competent enough to teach it yet.

#2 I've done lots of work with alternative cancer therapies besides D%26amp;T, and I have multiple close friends/relatives that have had fairly fast remissions without using any chemo bullshit. If you get the chance, there are some alternative therapies which work, they just aren't very well known.

To a large extent though, what will or will not work depends on the type of cancer but to make a long story short, I've seen results with the following;

1) Orgone energy accumulators

2) Rife Machines

3) Major diet improvements (take crap out of the diet, stop eating sugar, drink alkanalized water, do the johanna budwig diet, try gerson therapy).

4) See if some sort of emotional/psycological problem is causing the cancer and deal with that.

You might want to seriously consider looking into some of the stuff I listed. I'm about to leave for a trip though, so I can't help you more than that.
